Distant Kinship - Verre Verwanten
Distant Kinship is an exhibition of the work of nine printmakers from the Netherlands and the same number from New Zealand. This exhibition began its journey in October 2019 in two Galleries (KCB Gallery in Museum Kranenburgh and Gallery Schlessart in Bergen NH) in the Netherlands and will travel to three galleries in New Zealand (Aratoi Wairarapa museum of Art and History, Whangarei Art Museum and Waikato Art Museum) between 2020 and 2021.
My work provides an abstract interpretation of the theme Distant Kinship. Since the arrival of Maori in New Zealand more than 800 years ago successive explorers have made their mark, each layered on top of the other. Two of these layers are prominent in the name of our land - Aotearoa New Zealand, providing Kiwis with abstract yet powerful notions of identity and inherent links to kinship.
