Navigating - 2017
Three artist residencies in Spain, Australia and New Zealand (Rakiura - Stewart Island), between 2015 and 2016, have influenced my current body of work through which I consider the effect of man-made structures (both physical and idealogical) on our relationship with the natural environment.
Each print in this series is unique. It begins with the same print matrix on which expressive marks are laid as if creating a map for navigation. Layers are added that serve to obscure and reveal, leaving a history and residue. This layering process imitates my recollection of physical experience and visual perspective, tracing a path from past to present to future, all the while oscillating between external and internal worlds.
Works from this series are exhibited in Inside Worlds, Solander Gallery, Wellington between 5 July - 5 August 2017.
